![]() ![]() At the Hanford Site, the purpose of the testing is to determine if the electrical resistance tomography technology can be used in the vicinity of large underground metal tanks without the metal tank interfering with the test. ![]() By using an array of measurement electrodes in several boreholes, the arealmore » extent of contamination can be estimated. If a fluid contaminated with electrolytes is introduced into the soil, the soil resistance is expected to drop. The electrical resistance tomography technology measures soil electrical resistance between two electrodes. The electrical resistance tomography technology was developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and has been used at other waste sites to track underground contamination plumes. The activity being permitted is a technology test using electrical resistance tomography. This permit application documentation is for a State Waste Discharge Permit issued in accordance with requirements of Washington Administrative Code 173-216.
